I was optimistic about going to church today. We have finally got both our kids going to their seperate classes without crying now (it only took 6 month into the year to do it!) and so life is a little bit easier. Even though Sacrament meeting is always a battle zone I thought maybe today would be different (like I do every Sunday). Mark couldn’t sleep last night for some reason so he said he was going to stay home. I still wanted to go so I went with both kids.
It was like any ordinary church experience until Sacrament meeting came. We recently took away the kids priviledge of having crackers before taking the Sacrament because they wouldn’t be reverent during it. They were both very upset when we got to our bench when they couldn’t find their “cakars” as Brynnan calls them. This lead to them both screaming for their “cakars!” I was able to somewhat calm Brynnan down with his Raspberry drink (Raspberry Crystal light), but Jonas didn’t want his drink and was still crying for his crackers.
This was all before the Invocation was given. I was tired already and it had only been 2 minutes. The lady in front of us turned to me after the prayer and asked if she could help. I thanked her and gave her Brynnan. He will always quiet down for strangers (that’s probably not a good thing anywhere else, but at church it’s a great thing!!) So he sat with that lady for a few minutes eating teddy grahams, much to my dismay. Of course Jonas saw Brynnan getting crackers so Jonas wanted his own crackers. I just gave him a few and he got mad about that. Brynnan then saw that Jonas got the coveted fish crackers so he wanted to come back to me. Jonas wanted to go to Sis. Peterson and so went life. There was some more screaming when they both wanted to be with me again to have crackers.
Finally, the sacrament came to us and both boys calmed down to take the bread. After it was gone they wanted more and so I took them out into the hall where they screamed. We had to walk around the building to get them to be quiet and then we missed the water, of course. I was done by that point and tried to go back in to get our things but the boys would start screaming whenever we got to the doors so I had to leave Jonas in the hall and drag Brynnan in with me (otherwise he would run away and go outside), pack up our things and leave the meeting. It was sooo embarassing! I really didn’t think they would be that bad for me. I’m really thankful for the ladies that helped me. As we were walking to the car another Sister came out and asked if she could help. She carried Jonas to the car, while I took care of Brynnan. It’s so nice to know that people understand what it’s like to be a mom and are willing to help! Thank you to them!
