We’re Home!

30 09 2008

So I posted about Jonas being sick last week and then took a little hiatus for a few days. Unfortunately the hiatus was because Jonas was in the hospital.

He was diagnosed with the bladder infection last Wednesday and started taking medicine for it, but he seemed to only get worse. By Friday, he was having fevers all the time and complaining about back pain and sleeping a lot and just not looking very good. I called the nurse and made an appt. to see the doctor that afternoon. My friend, Megann, watched Brynnan, I had a feeling Jonas was dehydrated and would need to go to the hospital and it would be easier without Brynnan.

The doctor confirmed my feeling and sent Jonas to the hospital for an IV and also IV antibiotics for the bladder infection. He also wanted Jonas to get his shunt tapped, which is when a neurosurgeon puts a needle in the top of the shunt on Jonas’ head and pulls out some fluid to test it. Dr. Groberg said we’d be at the hospital 24 hours. :P

Today I am thinking that would’ve been nice!! I stayed with Jonas Friday, Saturday and Sunday night in the hospital. The only time I left his room was Friday after Jonas was admitted and Mark came over so I could go home and get some things, and Saturday when Mark and Brynnan came to visit. Brynnan and I took a walk around the hospital and I got some dinner in the cafeteria.

Jonas kept having fevers all day Saturday, they would go up, then down and back up, so the pediatrician on call wanted us to stay so he wouldn’t end up back in the hospital a few days later again! I was ok with that. Honestly, I wanted him to be drinking on his own more than he was so I was glad that we did stay. Sunday was up and down. He kept having the fevers and was mad most of the day. Giving him baths seemed to calm him down so I gave him one in the morning and then before bedtime.

The first counselor in our Bishopric and another brother from our ward were in the hospital visiting some other members so they stopped by and gave Jonas a blessing. That was really nice.

We had a good night sleep. I woke up Monday morning to Mark calling my cell phone at 7:30. The doctor came in so I talked with him for a few minutes. He gave Jonas an exam while he slept! It was really funny! He said we could go home! I was really excited. I thought we’d have to stay another day. There were some student nurses there so Jonas got poked and prodded some more which eventually woke him up and he was not happy about that! We had breakfast and then got all ready to leave. Mark had dropped Brynnan off with some friends so we went over there for a little bit. Jonas was so excited to see Brynnan!! And to play with friends! It was nice to see him happy and laughing!

So he’s doing a lot better now. He took a good nap yesterday afternoon and had somewhat of a good night sleep. He only called out a few times and I only went in once or twice. He was excited about going back to school today! I think he just needed to come home and be around familiar things.

Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts! We appreciate them!

Mortgages

25 09 2008

Does anyone have any advice about looking for a mortgage company? Mark and I are looking at a house that we might possibly “lease to own”. Does anyone know anything about this kind of a deal? Just thought I’d ask because with a sick kid and another attention needy one I don’t get much time to do research.

A Good Laugh

25 09 2008

Some of you know that Jonas has been sick for the past week. He had croup Wednesday so I took him into the doctor and they gave him steroids that seemed to help him feel better immediately. The doctor said there could be a chance that he would develop a fever after the cough and wheezing were gone, but it shouldn’t be anything to worry about and to give him tylenol. So on Sunday when he got a fever it didn’t worry me, but then it seemed to get worse and he didn’t want to do anything and he seemed tired and lethargic. That’s been going on this whole week so on Tuesday I decided to take him in. Yesterday the nurse called and said his urine culture came back with bacteria so he has a UTI. We got a medication for him and now we just have to wait. I’m going to call his urologist down in SLC because this is his 2nd or 3rd UTI on his daily medication that’s supposed to prevent them.

Anyway, that’s the update on how Jonas is doing. This morning he was said because Mark had to leave a little bit after he woke up. We watched some TV and around 10:00 he wanted to watch a cat video Mark found on youtube. I couldn’t find the right one, but we found another one that Jonas just loved! Him and Brynnan both had to watch it over and over. It was nice to hear Jonas laugh hysterically again!:) Here’s the video:

He did it!

In my head I’m humming the “We did it!” song that’s on the end of Dora the Explorer! Can you tell I’ve watched that show way too many times??!! LOL

I’m Addicted

22 09 2008

On Saturday we went to Sam’s Club as a family and while we were there we tried many of their sampler booths (whatever you call those things!). One of them was for a new kind of Cheerios; Banana Nut. They were pretty good so we decided to get a box. They are my new favorite cereal now! I can’t stop eating them. I even eat them at night after the kids go to be if I’m hungry. LOL I definitely recommend trying them.

In a Quiet Moment

22 09 2008

So I was vacuuming up the kitchen this morning and the kids were playing on the kitchen table chairs that I moved into the living room. I finished vacuuming and moved it into the living room so I could mop the floors (the kids were playing quietly). I got the oddest feeling that I was missing a child. That there should be a baby asleep or something. I’ve been feeling that I need to get pregnant one last time before we stop having kids. I’ve prayed about it and feel that there is a child waiting up in heaven to come down to us. This morning the feeling is ever so strong!

Isn’t it amazing when you get spiritual feelings like this? I’m thankful that I know there is a God and He has a plan for us! I’m thankful for the church and that there is a Prophet to lead and guide us in these days. I’m thankful for family and friends as well! And missionaries. I just got an email from my brother, Elder Paulos. The first letter I’ve gotten from him! It was so great to hear how he was doing. He’s having a great time and enjoying the people he works with and is teaching. It makes me so happy that we are all a part of moving His great work forward in these days. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

So Sweet!

19 09 2008

I thought this was so sweet, I had to write a post about it! I told my friend Megann that Jonas has croup and just a minute ago she called and asked if Jonas was taking a nap. For once he actually was! She went on to say that Lainey is very worried that Jonas is sick and would like to talk to him. Lainey settled for talking to me instead. I could barely hear her, but I think she asked if Jonas was sick and I told her he is, but he’s getting better. Then I think she asked about Brynnan! She’s such a sweetheart! Isn’t that so cute that she’s concerned about Jonas and wanted to call him! That just made my day! Thanks, Lainey (and Megann!).

Isn’t it so great they can be such good friends at this young of an age? I love it!

The Man from Mountain Home

18 09 2008

Mark knows how to harrass me! When he was working on this image of himself for my new website (if you haven’t been there yet, shame on you!), I told him I thought it looked scary; he put it on there any way. Well, he’s now outdone himself, and made a picture that’s really scary of himself!! And then he apparently thought it should be a movie. Those that know of or are from Mountain Home will appreciate the tag line on it:

And, yes, that’s a shotgun and a pistol in his hands. If that wasn’t bad enough, Jonas saw the picture and got really excited. What is it about little boys and guns! “Is that guns? Is he shooting fire?” Mark said, “Well at least now my sons will think I’m cool.” *sigh*

My Kids are So WIERD!

18 09 2008

So Jonas has had croup for the past couple days. Tuesday night he woke up at about 1 am with a barking cough and wheezing like I’ve never heard before. It was really scary at first, but then I remembered something about turning on a hot shower. I looked it up on the internet (again we are so lucky to have such a great resource available!) and sure enough I found articles that said either cold night air or a steamy shower would help relieve the symptoms so he could at least get some sleep before going to see the doctor. It was actually fun spending that time with Jonas. He was really sweet and happy to be with me! It was wonderful! We both fell asleep on the floor in his room and Jonas slept in until about 8:15. Well, last night was not a good night at all! Jonas came into our room around 3 or 4 and I went with him to the couch. he was complaining that his throat hurt so I let him have a drink and being in the living room helped because it’s so cold out there at night with the fan and window open. But Brynna woke up and then they were competing for my attention and Jonas kept wanting to hold Brynnan, but Brynnan didn’t want that, etc. So I finally left them in their room and Mark went in and they fell asleep a few minutes later!!!! By that time it was 5am!! ARGH, I just need to let them cry about if they’re going to be like that!:P

Anyway, onto the title of my post. They both slept in today. Brynnan woke up about 7:40ish and the first thing he says to me is: “Ea” (which means “eat”) and then when I asked what he wanted to eat he said “:Chicken.” No joke! He kept saying “ea”  until we went out to the kitchen. He really did want Chicken so we gave it to him!

Love his bed head!!:)

“Mmmm this chicken is so yummy! In fact it’s better at breakfast time than lunch!” I bet that’s what he’s thinking.

Jonas slept in until 9am!! He didn’t want to eat until 10 and when he did want to eat he kept saying chicken! I was like, “what is with Chicken this morning?!” He eventually decided that he wanted a left over piece of French toast and a bowl of honey nut chex. (yes, I meant to write honey nut chex! If you haven’t seen them in the store, believe me, they exist and they’re quite expensive for such a small box! And especially if you go through about a box a week!)

He wasn’t really interested in lunch until I started eating my sandwich with some chips! :P so I got him to eat some left over meat and grapes. The meat he had to dip in Thousand Island dressing (a few days ago we had taco salad and he loves it with that dressing!) and when I gave him the grapes he asked if he could dip them in the dressing too. I said sure and he proceeded to do so! Over and over again!

I love that I focused on “Crazy” written on his shirt. I couldn’t focus on his hand dipping in time, so crazy was the next perfect thing!

Isn’t it fun having wierd kids? I love ‘em! They keep me laughing and on my toes every day, well, ok maybe on my toes every day, but not always laughing.

How Fortunate We Are

17 09 2008

So most of you have probably heard about the Neilson plane crash in Arizona. Tonight I was reading the blog about their recovery and she links to another family having problems of their own in Seattle. Reading both of these blogs tonight has made me feel incredibly thankful for life and knowing that there is a life after this one! It also has made me realize how amazing and wonderful people are. It’s so great these families have so much support, not only from family and friends, but from strangers! I found out about the Neilson’s accident by reading a scrapbooking blog! A friend of the families posted a comment about what had happened. It’s great that the internet can be used for good!

This link is to the Nie-Nie recovery blog by her sister:

This is the link to the family in Seattle. She was 7 months pregnant and started having problems, back in June.
